Profile

Daniel works on arbitration proceedings, arbitration-related court applications and commercial litigation.

He has appeared before Nigerian courts at all levels and before arbitral tribunals in disputes arising from construction projects, energy arrangements, data protection issues, administrative law claims and election petitions.

Daniel has worked on arbitration and enforcement matters with significant monetary exposure, including disputes involving State parties, regulated entities and complex commercial arrangements. His experience includes both domestic and cross-border proceedings, including matters seated outside Nigeria.

His work has included investment-linked disputes and claims arising from gas supply, power and share sale arrangements, as well as arbitral enforcement proceedings before Nigerian appellate courts.

Daniel is closely engaged with arbitration practice and procedure, including questions of arbitral process, enforcement strategy and court supervision of arbitration. He has also served as arbitral secretary in complex proceedings.

Daniel serves as Co-Chair of the Lagos Court of Arbitration Young Arbitrators Network (LCA-YAN), is Nigeria Rapporteur for the ICCA Yearbook, and is a member of the LCIA African Users’ Council and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Representative Experience

  • Acting as part of the counsel team for a West African State in an investment arbitration before the LCIA involving claims exceeding USD 100 million.

  • Successfully opposing an application to restrain arbitral proceedings (anti-arbitration injunction) before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.

  • Representing a holding company in an ongoing arbitration arising from a share sale and purchase agreement, involving claims exceeding ₦15 billion.

  • Acting for an oil and gas company in an arbitration arising from a gas sale and purchase agreement, with claims exceeding USD 6 million.

  • Representing a private power supply company in arbitral award enforcement proceedings against a State-owned entity, including appellate proceedings before the Court of Appeal, in respect of an award exceeding ₦1 billion.

  • Acting as part of the counsel team in arbitration enforcement proceedings arising from a construction dispute against a Nigerian State, with claims exceeding ₦500 million.

  • Member of the counsel team representing an African supranational organisation in an employment-related dispute before an arbitral tribunal involving a foreign professional.

  • Preparing submissions and supporting advocacy in election petition proceedings before Governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly Election Tribunals in the 2019 and 2023 electoral cycles.
